SNOW FOOTPRINTS - 雪の足あと -

Their exchange between Hokkaido and the USA began around 1997 in Otaru. In 1999, an exhibition titled NEW ART FROM JAPAN was held at three venues in California: the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, Art Department Gallery at Santa Clara University, and Applied Materials, Inc. Fourteen artists participated from Japan.

This exhibition in Niseko features works by two of those members: the late Asuka Kunimatsu, Kenji Otaki, and Kelly Detweiler, who was a co-organizer at the time. It a traces the friendship cultivated over many years, showcases works that continue to resonate today, and serves as a memorial tribute to the late Asuka Kunimatsu. The footprints they left, stretching from the northern lands to California, continue into the future. We invite you to visit.

北海道とアメリカとの交流は1997年頃、小樽で始まった。1999年にはNEW ART FROM JAPANと題した展覧会がカリフォルニア州の3会場、サンノゼ・インスティチュート・オブ・コンテンポラリー・アート、サンタクララ大学アートデパートメントギャラリー、アプライドマテリアルズ株式会社で開催された。日本からは14名の作家が参加した。

今回のニセコ展では、そのメンバーのうち2名、故・國松明日香、大滝憲二、そして当時共同主催者であったケリー・デットワイラー、の作品を紹介する。本展は長年にわたり育まれてきた友情を辿り、今もなお息づく彼らの作品を展示するとともに、故・國松明日香への追悼の意を込めたものとなる。彼らが残した足跡は、北の大地からカリフォルニアへと続き、これからも未来へと続いていく。ぜひご来場ください。

YUKIYAMAKOERU - 雪山越 -

27 December 2025 ‒ 8 March 2026, we are pleased to present the“YUKIYAMA KOERU” exhibition. Last year, we held the “YUKIYAMA NOBORU” exhibition. This year, having climbed the snowy mountains, we now aim to cross them. Four outstanding artists will push beyond their limits, much like traversing a rugged snowy mountain. We invite you to experience the works of these artists, who represent Hokkaido.

2025年12月27日- 2026年3月8日、「雪山越」展を開催いたします。昨年は「雪山登」展を開催いたしました。今年は雪山を登った先へ、さらに越えていくことを目指します。4人の優れたアーティストが、険しい雪山を横断するように自らの限界を超えていきます。北海道を代表するアーティストたちの作品を、ぜひご体験ください。

The opening event will be held on Saturday, 27 December 2025 from 14:00 - 17:00. Everyone is welcome to attend. (Admission is free) Artists will be present on the day. There will also be a performance by Tsugaru shamisen player NIYA!　We look forward to seeing you there!
